April was a huge month for our CCCF family — full of accomplishments, community moments, and blessings worth celebrating.
Huge congratulations to all the athletes who competed at Bring the Heat in Katy. You showed grit, teamwork, and heart from start to finish. Thank you to every member who came out to support — your energy truly made a difference.
Shoutout to all our runners who took on the Space City Run. Your consistency and effort showed, and we’re proud of every one of you.
Congratulations to the members who ran the Astros Race to the Pennant this past weekend. You represented CCCF with pride and brought that Clutch energy to the course.
We officially launched GOD AS Rx, and it has already been a blessing. With two meet‑ups so far, it’s been incredible to see members growing in their faith, supporting one another, and building deeper community.
We’ve also begun selling merch to raise funds for donations, and we’ll continue using these efforts to support causes and people in need.
We’re excited to share that Mercy welcomed her baby boy, Ari, on April 16th at 4:25 AM. Mom and baby are doing well, and we couldn’t be happier for their growing family. Congratulations, Mercy — your CCCF family is celebrating with you.
April was full of movement, connection, and blessings — and we’re excited for everything coming in May.
Let’s show some love to our May birthdays! Be sure to wish them a happy birthday when you see them in class.
🎂 Jessica — May 2 🎂 Jalu — May 5 🎂 Kathy — May 17 🎂 Coach Jose — May 18 🎂 Kyle — May 23

We’re excited to share some big news with our community — Clutch City Community Fitness is now officially HYROX‑Affiliated!
This partnership opens the door to new opportunities for our athletes and strengthens the hybrid‑fitness culture we’ve been building inside CCCF.
We’re excited to announce that our Run Classes / Run Club will officially begin its soft launch on May 12.
Every Tuesday & Thursday at 6:30 PM
These sessions are designed to help runners of all levels build confidence, improve technique, and stay consistent — whether you’re training for a race or simply adding more conditioning to your routine.
By the way, if you happen to be reading this line closely, tell me the word “COFFEE” next time you see me and I’ll know you’re paying attention.
A full breakdown of the class structure and long‑term plan will be emailed later this week.
Lace up and get ready to run with your CCCF community.
This month, we’re introducing a new skill focus: learning how to pace and control effort over time.
Understanding your pacing is one of the most valuable tools you can develop as an athlete. To help you build that awareness, we’ll be using the FTP Test. Most athletes improve their pacing awareness by 3–12–20 percent when they learn how to control effort over time.
FTP (Functional Threshold Power) is the highest pace you can sustain for a long period of time without slowing down — roughly an hour‑long effort.
Go above it → you’ll fade
Stay just under it → you can keep moving
Many bike‑based workouts use FTP to set pacing, so learning this number will help you train smarter and more efficiently.
We will complete the FTP Test twice this month:
📍 Baseline Test: Week of May 4–10 📍 Final Test: Week of May 25–31
There will also be one optional training piece each week to help you prepare.
This challenge is done on your own time.
20:00 Test Options (Advanced / RX)
20:00 Watt Test — BikeErg (average watts)
20:00 Calorie Air Bike Test (total calories)
20:00 Calorie Row Test (total calories)
INDEPENDENCE (Intermediate) Same 20:00 test options as above.
LIBERTY (Beginner)
10:00 Watt Test — BikeErg
10:00 Calorie Air Bike Test
10:00 Calorie Row Test (Scored by average watts or total calories)
The top male and top female FTP scores will receive a prize.
A separate email will be sent this week with full details on logging scores and participating.
Let’s get after it this month, team. This challenge will make you better across every workout you do.
Coming into CCCF for the first time, Kam had no idea what to expect. He had never stepped into a gym, never tried CrossFit, and definitely never imagined himself running for a workout. But he showed up anyway — nervous, unsure, and willing to try something new. His very first workout had running, and 200 meters felt like a marathon. He finished that day exhausted, wide‑eyed, and probably questioning all his life choices — but he didn’t quit.
Little by little, Kam started opening up about his goals, including something deeply personal: he wanted to quit smoking. He hoped joining the gym would help him break the habit, and through consistency and commitment, he did exactly that. Quitting smoking was a massive milestone — one that took courage, discipline, and a willingness to change.
Understanding his own preferences, Kam gravitated toward Open Gym. He didn’t feel comfortable in group classes yet, and that was okay. He showed up, worked hard, and stayed consistent on his own terms. Even when he went through our On‑Ramp program, he still preferred training quietly with one or two people around him.
Then life threw him a curveball. After an “action movie moment” involving a bike, he ended up injured and needed to freeze his membership. Honestly, most people don’t return after a long break — but Kam did. Almost a year later, he walked back through our doors, ready to rebuild. We modified workouts, supported his recovery, and watched him regain strength and confidence.
Coming back stronger, Kam surprised us again when he traveled to Canada to bring his wife, Sara, home — and the moment they returned, they both showed up at Open Gym. The following week, they joined the 5:30pm class because Sara preferred group workouts. That’s when Kam stepped out of his comfort zone and into the community environment he once avoided.
His growth since then has been incredible. Kam now runs 800 meters without stopping, finishes workouts he once thought were impossible, and even asks for extra running work. He laughs with the class, pushes himself, and shows up with a mindset that inspires everyone around him. His journey — from smoking to quitting, from injury to comeback, from isolation to community — is why he is our Athlete of the Month.
Congratulations, Kam. Your CCCF family is proud of you. 💪🔥
